Where to begin? Take 400,000 people put them in a land mass with both a rich history and a modern sensibility, and you will get Intown Atlanta.
Intown Atlanta is most commonly defined as the communities located Downtown and in Midtown. These communities are filled with mostly pre-World War II neighborhoods that contain a wealth of exciting and varied destinations.
You’ll find universities like world renown Georgia Tech, Emory University and Oglethorpe University. There’s the High Museum, the Center for Civil and Human Rights, the iconic Fox Theatre, the Georgia Aquarium, the Atlanta Botanical Gardens
and legendary Piedmont Park. These are but a few of the dynamic locations that make Intown Atlanta great.
History of Intown Neighborhoods
After the Civil War, in the 1800s, Atlantans had to literally rebuild everything. Gorgeous Victorian mansions sprung up in new neighborhoods along with carefully planned parks.
New industry established itself quickly and brought the city back to life. But, as in the case in many cities, residents migrated to the suburbs, and a decline crept to inner-city neighborhoods. However, beginning in 1990, Atlanta began seriously revitalizing it’s oldest areas. Modern buildings exploded on to the landscape and large corporations came in supporting lots of trendy and new small businesses.
The Atlanta Beltline
Perhaps there’s no greater example of the planned and well executed, revitalization effort than The Atlanta Beltline.
Thirty-three miles of a former railway corridor developed as a multi-use trail. The Beltline connects many of the Intown neighborhoods, bringing them together and stimulating economic growth.
Variety is the Spice of Life in Intown Atlanta
Intown is truly a melting pot of people and of communities. Homebuyers have an opportunity to live in high rises, bungalows, cottages, factory lofts, mid-century moderns, and Victorians just to name a few. There is literally every type of home represented which also makes living in Intown Atlanta unique.
